Module 7, Part Two - Hands-on: making your own visuals
In this practical lesson you'll apply everything you've learned about creating visuals with AI - transforming information into infographics, flowcharts, and cartoons. Each exercise includes a downloadable file, plus prompts and tips.
Exercise 1 - Create an infographic from a report
- Upload a report to your AI chat. Use the sample report (PDF) or your own.
- Prompt:
Create an infographic summarising the main insights, statistics, and recommendations from this report.
- Review the generated infographic and refine by specifying elements to highlight, rearrange, or clarify.
- Save your final infographic and share it with a colleague for feedback.
Reflection: What surprised you most? How might this type of infographic be useful in your everyday work?
Exercise 2 - Generate an infographic from a podcast transcript
- Upload a transcript to your AI chat. Use the sample AI in Education podcast transcript (TXT), or a meeting transcript of your own.
- Prompt (adjust if it's a meeting):
Summarise this podcast into an engaging infographic, highlighting the top insights and memorable quotes.
- Customise by requesting specific colour schemes or branding guidelines.
- Finalise the visual and consider how you'd distribute it - social media, internal comms, or your website.
Reflection: What advantages did this visual summary offer compared to the original audio?
Exercise 3 - Build a flowchart from an SOP
- Upload a Standard Operating Procedure to your AI chat. Use the sample Restaurant Opening SOP (PDF), or your own.
- Prompt:
Convert this operating procedure into a clear, easy-to-follow flowchart, highlighting key decision points and actions.
- Check for accuracy, clarity and logic, and refine:
Simplify this part of the process Clearly label decision-making steps
- Share the final flowchart with someone unfamiliar with the process and gather feedback.
Reflection: How does the visual representation improve understanding compared to the written procedure?
Exercise 4 - Turn a process into a cartoon
- Continue in the same chat, or start a new one using the same SOP from Exercise 3.
- Prompt:
Explain this process in a humorous, engaging 6-step cartoon. Clearly illustrate and caption each step.
- Adjust tone and style:
Make it suitable for an internal training session Use relatable workplace characters
- Review and refine until it's engaging and effective for your audience.
Reflection: How did using humour and cartoons impact your communication of this process? Would you use this approach again?
